The Pterodactyl is a Mythical pet that was obtainable from the Dinosaur Egg or from the DNA Converter in Grow a Garden. However, both the Dinosaur Egg and the Pterodactyl, along with other dinosaur pets, are no longer obtainable from the DNA Converter as of the end of the Prehistoric Update.
Appearance
The Pterodactyl has a sleek blue body with a yellow sting and a light-blue beak. It stands on two light-blue legs and has wide wings that give it a majestic, airborne look.
Traits
Sky Reptile: Occasionally applies the Windstruck mutation to several nearby fruits, with a chance of also applying Twisted.
Air Time: Increases the player’s jump height by 14.39%.
These traits make the Pterodactyl one of the most useful pets for both mutation farming and movement enhancement.
If you missed the chance to get the Pterodactyl during the Prehistoric Update, don’t worry—there are still plenty of fun pets to discover in Grow a Garden! While the Dinosaur Egg is no longer available, you can explore other rare options or even buy gag pets from special events and traders to expand your collection. Keep growing, experimenting with mutations, and building your ultimate garden team!

How to Get a Pterodactyl in Grow a Garden
The Pterodactyl was one of six pets available in the Dinosaur Egg, added during the Prehistoric Update on July 5, 2025.
It was classified as a Legendary pet, with higher odds of being hatched compared to the Mythical Brontosaurus or the Divine T-Rex.
Although the primary method was hatching a Dinosaur Egg, there was an alternative way to obtain dinosaur pets through the Dinosaur Eggs NPC, Graham.
Method 1: Hatching a Dinosaur Egg
You could obtain a Dinosaur Egg and hatch it to have a chance at receiving the Pterodactyl.
Method 2: Trading Pets to Graham
By trading your existing pets to Graham, the Dinosaur Egg NPC, you could receive a Dinosaur Egg or even a dinosaur pet directly. The rarer the pet you offered, the higher the chance to get a dinosaur pet instead of an egg.
Note: You lose any pet you give to Graham, so choose carefully!
How to Get a Dinosaur Egg
There were two main methods to obtain a Dinosaur Egg before it was removed:
- Trade Pets with Graham
- Give pets to the Dinosaur Eggs NPC, Graham.
- The process takes one hour and consumes your pet.
- Rarer pets increased the chance of receiving a dinosaur pet directly instead of an egg.
- Complete Dino Quests from Blaire
- Visit the Prehistoric Quest NPC, Blaire.
- Completing sets of three Dino Quests rewarded:
- Ancient Seed Pack
- Dinosaur Egg
- Dino Crate
What Does the Pterodactyl Do in Grow a Garden?
The Pterodactyl’s main ability is its Sky Reptile passive, which spreads the Windstruck mutation to multiple nearby fruits and occasionally adds Twisted as well.
If both mutations are applied, the fruit gains the Tempestuous mutation — boosting its value by 19×.
Additionally, the Air Time passive increases your jump height by 14.39%, making navigation around your garden faster and easier.
Trivia
- The Pterodactyl cannot give the Twisted mutation if the plant already has Windstruck.
- However, it can apply Windstruck to a fruit that already has Twisted (for example, from a Tornado).
- When both Windstruck and Twisted are present, the fruit gains the Tempestuous mutation.
- Although the real-life Pterodactylus isn’t technically a dinosaur, it is categorized as a dinosaur-type pet in Grow a Garden.
